Six-hour operation: Vonn takes "small steps"
US ski star Lindsey Vonn has undergone another operation in her home country following her serious fall at the Winter Olympics.

As the 41-year-old announced on her Instagram channel, the external fixator was removed during the more than six-hour procedure. "As you can see, a lot of plates and screws were needed to put everything back together, but Dr. Hackett did an incredible job," Vonn wrote alongside a video.
Vonn reiterated that she would soon speak about the injury and its implications for her future. "Because of the extent of the injury, I've had a bit of a struggle since the surgery and haven't been able to leave the hospital yet... but I'm almost there. Small steps."
No longer in Italy
Vonn, who was seriously injured after her crash in the Olympic downhill race, was taken by ambulance to Marco Polo Airport on Monday after her hospital stay in Treviso and flown to the USA. Vonn suffered a complex shin injury in her crash in Cortina d'Ampezzo.The American has already undergone several operations, which is not unusual for such injuries. The 2010 Olympic champion competed despite a torn cruciate ligament in her left knee.
