Mikaela Shiffrin has achieved everything in alpine skiing: Olympic gold medals, world championship titles, large and small crystal globes. If you like, the historic 100th World Cup victory in the slalom in Sestriere last weekend was the icing on the cake in the 29-year-old's career. But numbers and statistics were rarely important to the American, something she herself has repeatedly emphasized. Now she has proven once again that she can think outside the box.
After her triumph in the mountains of Piedmont, Shiffrin had already started her partnership with Share Winter Foundation announced that it would like to raise 100.000 US dollars for ski and snowboard programs for children and young people who do not have access to alpine sports. As part of this project, many fans noticed the T-shirts with the inscription "MIK100 - Reset The Sport", which are now available in shops due to high demand.
Shiffrin: “It’s important to have passion”
According to her own statements, the profits from the sale will also go towards her fundraising campaign. "I want to help people experience snow sports and have fun with them because it is such a big part of my life," Shiffrin explained in a video on social media. "It has given me so much and I want to share that with the world. Especially with people who might not otherwise have the chance. I think it is important to have passion for something. It is important for people to have something in their life that they love to do."Mikaela Shiffrin has celebrated 100 World Cup victories. © ANSA / ANDREA SOLERO
It is not the first project of this kind that Shiffrin has supported. In honor of her late father Jeff, she launched the Jeff Shiffrin Athlete Resiliency Fund in collaboration with US Ski & Snowboard. The fund has already raised more than $3,7 million to cover the costs of teammates and allow athletes to focus on their athletic journey.
