Shiffrin's curious mishap: "Unfortunately, not an April Fool's joke"

It was another outstanding season for Mikaela Shiffrin, who crowned herself Olympic slalom champion last winter and scooped up two crystal globes: she won both the overall and slalom titles. With this, Shiffrin once again underlined that she is the best skier in the world.

The 110-time World Cup winner is now back in the USA, where she spent the last few hours in New York City. And that's exactly where the mishap occurred: one of her two crystal globes broke.

"Oopsie…," Shiffrin wrote on Instagram, posting a photo of the broken trophy. "Unfortunately, this is NOT an April Fool's joke," she added with three laughing emojis. Shiffrin hasn't (yet) revealed exactly how the trophy broke. However, her Instagram stories show her having the trophies with her at both TV appearances and a photoshoot.

Shiffrin certainly won't be devastated; after all, her trophy cabinet already boasts several crystal globes. Meanwhile, the 31-year-old is enjoying the end of the season: In New York City, she attended a Brooklyn Nets basketball game, where she even acted as a photographer. Shiffrin also made appearances on various TV shows and participated in photo shoots.
