Dominik Paris had already won the downhill in Kvitfjell four times before he pushed off from the starting gate on Saturday. This was followed by his fifth triumph and a successful title defense, as the South Tyrolean had also won the downhill in Norway a year earlier.
For Paris, it was his first victory of the current World Cup season, following podium finishes in Crans Montana (2nd) and Val Gardena (3rd). The win in Kvitfjell also had another welcome side effect: Paris moved into third place in the overall downhill standings, behind Marco Odermatt and Franjo von Allmen. Paris has accumulated 441 points in his specialty discipline. Crystal Globe winner Odermatt, by comparison, has 706 points.
Schieder in the top 10 – Innerhofer without points
Behind Paris on Saturday, von Allmen (+0,19 seconds) and Vincent Kriechmayr (+0,60) finished on the podium. Somewhat surprisingly, the second-best Italian was Benjamin Alliod, who finished eighth, 1,12 seconds behind. Florian Schieder (+1,27) from Kastelruth came in tenth, followed by Giovanni Franzoni (+1,31) in eleventh.Mattia Casse (20th) and Christof Innerhofer (21st) did not receive any World Cup points. Only the top 15 finishers in the World Cup Finals are awarded points. A total of 24 athletes competed. Thirteen of them, more than half, came from Italy (6) or Switzerland (7).
