After competing in the team combined event in Cortina, D'Antonio joined the Italian team for a training session in Toblach, Italy, where she suffered a serious fall and tore her cruciate ligament. Ten days later, D'Antonio underwent surgery.
As the winter sports federation FISI announced on Tuesday, the surgery on her right knee at the La Madonnina Hospital in Milan, performed by federation doctor Andrea Panzeri and Gabriele Thiebat, was a complete success. "She will begin physiotherapy in the coming hours, in consultation with the medical commission, which should get her back on skis next season," the statement continued.

D'Antonio herself had spoken out on social media in recent days. "It was an incredible season," wrote the highly touted ski talent. "One of those that changes you inside, that surprises you, that pushes you to the brink of what you thought were insurmountable limits. I achieved things I didn't even know I was capable of. I exceeded all my expectations and overcame fears and doubts," wrote the Italian, who competed in three World Cup races this season.
D'Antonio hopeful
In closing, she reveals her ambition. “I will be back. With the same hunger, with the same will. But above all, I will return with the same joy to do what I love most. Thank you to all the people who were close to me, who believed in me, even when it was difficult for me, and who supported me on my journey. This is just the beginning.”Edit Profile
