Sofia Goggia under the knife again: The background

In recent weeks and months, it has seemed as if Sofia Goggia was fitter than ever before. But on Monday, news came that the Italian ski queen had gone under the knife again and would therefore not be traveling to South America.

Some ski fans may have felt a little "fear sugar" in their muscles when the Italian winter sports association FISI sent an email on Monday with the title "Press release on Sofia Goggia". And indeed: The intrepid 31-year-old has undergone another operation. The good news: Even if Goggia misses the South American trip to Ushuaia as a result, the 2024/25 season is not in danger.

Goggia had the screws from her last operation in February removed at the "La Madonnina" clinic in Milan. At that time, the Bergamaskin had to undergo surgery after a training fall in which she broke her shinbone and ankle. "The operation was carried out perfectly," says the FISI statement. Goggia should be able to resume training in the next few days.

The ski queen herself addressed her fans via Instagram: "I was discharged from the hospital today and I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am very happy that the screw was removed because it was causing me some problems with my ski boot."
