Is she resigning? Mikaela Shiffrin speaks out.

Mikaela Shiffrin is under particular scrutiny at the World Cup Finals in Norway – not least because of the wild rumors that have been circulating in recent hours. Now the American is setting the record straight.

On Friday, intense media speculation surrounding Mikaela Shiffrin caused a stir: Is the greatest female skier of all time about to end her career after the World Cup Finals in Norway? Rumors circulated that the American might take this step together with her fiancé, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.

Unsurprisingly, Shiffrin was asked about these rumors on Saturday. She firmly denied the speculation. "I'll be racing next year, I'm not retiring," the 109-time World Cup winner stated in an ORF interview. She then added: "I think Aleks will also give it his all in training this summer. We'll certainly have opportunities to train together."

"It's all just rumors." Mikaela Shiffrin

Shiffrin understands the retirement speculation. "I'm nearing the end of my career, and so is he. Naturally, questions arise. But these are all just rumors," Shiffrin said.

The American is still in contention for the overall World Cup title. The 31-year-old is currently 95 points ahead of Germany's Emma Aicher. For Shiffrin, it would be the sixth overall World Cup title of her career. And the skiing world is delighted that its greatest athlete of all time is staying in the competition.
