With your ninth place in the slalom the previous day Trocker had already achieved her first top-ten result in the World Cup before going one better in the giant slalom at the finals in Norway: The 17-year-old from Völs finished in eighth place on Wednesday. This meant Trocker even outperformed Mikaela Shiffrin, whose eleventh place was enough to secure the overall World Cup title.
With her sixth overall World Cup crystal globe, Shiffrin equaled the record of Austrian ski icon Annemarie Moser-Pröll. Shiffrin has now won a total of 18 crystal globes in the World Cup – putting her just two behind her fellow American Lindsey Vonn (20) in this statistic.

“I’m pleased that I made everyone nervous again,” Shiffrin’s rival Emma Aicher had declared with a mischievous smile before the second run. The 22-year-old German made a costly mistake in the final run and dropped back to twelfth place. By then, her slim chance of winning the overall title was already gone. The victory in the last race of the winter went to Canadian Valerie Grenier, who had been leading at the halfway point.
Trocker's rise
But back to Trocker: The young South Tyrolean has written a fairytale story in recent months. At just 17, Trocker was already able to participate in the home Olympics in Cortina, where she impressed with a tenth-place finish in the team combined event. As a two-time Junior World Champion, she then qualified for the World Cup Finals in Norway, where she definitively showcased her talent to the skiing world.Edit Profile
