Trockener and Vinatzer are the best in Italy

Alex Vinatzer and Anna Trocker have won the Italian championship titles in slalom.

At the conclusion of the national championships in Sestriere, both South Tyroleans won slalom gold. Vinatzer won with a 1,20-second lead over Stefano Pizzato. Third-place finisher Corrado Barbera was already more than two seconds behind. Four other South Tyroleans finished in the top ten: Simon Maurberger (4th), Matteo Canins (5th), Hannes Zingerle (7th), and David Castlunger.

For Vinatzer, it was his second Italian championship title in slalom. The Val Gardena native had won his first four years ago, also in Sestriere. The previous day, in the giant slalom, Vinatzer had been beaten by Giovanni Borsotti.

Anna Trocker also strikes in the slalom

In the women's race, 17-year-old Trocker, who had already triumphed in the giant slalom two days earlier, prevailed by a narrow half-second margin over Alice Pazzaglia. Trocker is Italy's great hope for the future in the technical disciplines. Celina Haller (+0,75) from Schenna took bronze. Young Victoria Klotz (+1,12) from Bolzano finished fifth. Laura Steinmair came in tenth.
