Surprising ski comeback: ÖSV star is back

This weekend, the technical weekend in Val d'Isère is scheduled for the men's World Cup. There will be a surprising comeback.

Marco Schwarz from Carinthia is returning to the Ski World Cup this weekend in Val d'Isère, around a year after his serious knee injury and subsequent slipped disc. The ÖSV announced this on Wednesday. However, the 29-year-old will only compete in the slalom on Sunday in France, and will skip the giant slalom on Saturday.

"The anticipation is of course huge. A lot has happened in the last few weeks and the last few days when I joined the team were particularly important. I've become more self-assured and I no longer have to think too much when I'm driving. That's the most important thing and that's why I feel ready for the slalom on Sunday," said Schwarz.

The multiple World Championship medalist suffered a cruciate ligament tear and cartilage damage in his right knee in the downhill race in Bormio at the end of December 2023. In the summer, he also suffered a slipped disc.

Back earlier than planned

Schwarz only started skiing again in October, and it was very promising. That's why he's now even daring to make a comeback a little earlier than previously planned. "The last few days were decisive, and I feel fit and ready for Val d'Isère. I want to ski there with freedom and am excited to see how that will feel at the start," said the winner of six World Cup races to date.
