Update from hospital: How Mikaela Shiffrin is doing

Mikaela Shiffrin shocked the skiing world with her fall in Killington. Now there is an update from the hospital.

Suddenly it became very quiet in the finish area of Killington. When Mikaela Shiffrin on the way to her 100th World Cup victory lost her balance, fell, rolled over violently and landed in the safety net, the fans held their breath. Especially because Shiffrin was then unable to cross the finish line on her own and had to be transported away by paramedics.

After anxious hours, the star skier published an update from the hospital in the early evening local time. She spoke to her fans in a short video. "I can't move at the moment," said Shiffrin, looking at a wound in her pelvic area. "I have a big abrasion, something has impaled me."

Pain, but slight relief

Even though Shiffrin was hit hard, a serious injury could apparently be ruled out. "The scans so far are OK," said the American with relief.

Nevertheless, a start in the Killington slalom on Sunday is not an option. "I will cheer on the girls at the edge of the slopes," said Shiffrin, who also addressed a few words to the fans: "I'm sorry that I scared you. Thank you for your support." Shiffrin has probably gotten off lightly, but it remains to be seen whether she will have to take a break anyway.
