Vinatzer loses his nerve: Italy goes home empty-handed

After the downhill run, things looked very promising. Another medal for South Tyrol's winter athletes was within reach in the men's team combined event in Bormio. In the end, they missed out on another medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Alex Vinatzer's starting position was so good before the slalom in Bormio. His partner Giovanni Franzoni had won the downhill race and thus put the Italian team 1 in pole position. Dominik Paris/Tommaso Sala were also lurking in fifth place, hoping for a medal.

In the end, neither of the Italian teams managed to secure a podium finish. While Tommaso Sala brought Italy 2 to fifth place, Vinatzer's nerves failed him. The rider from Wolkenstein had a poor run from start to finish, constantly losing time and crossing the line 1,22 seconds behind the winner. Seventh place was the best the Franzoni/Vinatzer duo could manage.

Von Allmen makes Swiss skiing history

Switzerland won the Olympic gold medal in the men's team combined event. Franjo von Allmen and Tanguy Nef (Switzerland 2) took the gold. Von Allmen thus made Swiss skiing history. There had never been a Swiss double Olympic champion before. After his triumph in the downhill, von Allmen has now won his second gold medal on his second attempt.

Behind Switzerland 2, there are two silver medalists. Vincent Kriechmayr and Manuel Feller (Austria 1) secured Austria's first ski medal at these Olympic Games. While South Tyrol's skiers went home empty-handed on Monday, North Tyrol can celebrate Feller's silver medal from Fieberbrunn. Marco Odermatt and Loic Meillard (Switzerland 1) completed the podium. The two Swiss skiers were just as fast as Kriechmayr and Feller.
