This weekend, a true classic is on the Ski World Cup schedule. The traditional Adelboden races are taking place on the Chuenisbärgli. Normally, it's a huge party, a massive celebration in this ski-mad town. But this year is different. The devastating fire in Crans-Montana on New Year's Eve – which claimed 40 lives and injured 116 others – is still very much on everyone's mind.
This is no different for Marco Odermatt, the best skier in the world. "Even though our racing routine continues, our thoughts and sympathies are naturally with the families who have been torn apart by this incredible tragedy," the overall World Cup leader said in an interview with Look.

Odermatt's thoughts are with the victims. "To those who survived the inferno, I wish all the strength and patience they need on their road to recovery. And to all those who have been working for them for days, my deepest gratitude is due," Odermatt added. The 50-time World Cup winner also knows that the races in Adelboden will be different this year. "This year's Chuenisbärgli races are entirely dedicated to showing solidarity with Crans-Montana," Odermatt said.
On Saturday, the famous and infamous giant slalom will take place in Adelboden (10:30 am/1:30 pm), and the slalom will be held the following day at the same times.
