Back to Italy? Stir around ski star Lara Colturi

Lara Colturi is just 18 years old and already a star in the skiing world. But now there are wild rumors that are likely to cause a stir, especially in Italy.

Experts in the skiing world have long agreed that Lara Colturi has a bright future ahead of her. Therefore, there was a huge outcry in her native Italy when it was announced in the summer of 2022 that the daughter of Italian Olympic champion Daniela Ceccarelli would be switching nations. Effective immediately, she would no longer compete for Italy, but for Albania.

The reason for this was obvious: Colturi enjoys considerable freedom within the structures of ski dwarf Albania. She is coached by her private team, i.e., her parents, and can decide for herself about races and advertising revenue. But now there are wild rumors: According to several Albanian media outlets, Colturi wants to return to the Italian federation.

Application submitted, application rejected

According to media reports, Colturi has already submitted an application for a transfer to the Albanian federation. However, this request has so far been rejected. This puts Colturi and her team in a dilemma, because if she leaves without approval, the ski talent would have to take a one-year break and would not be allowed to compete in any World Cup races or Olympic Games during that period. And time is running out: A transfer of nationality must be submitted to the International Ski Federation by May 1st.

What exactly prompted Colturi to rethink this is something we can only speculate about. One of the reasons is said to be a lack of money in the Albanian association. And perhaps also prestige? In Italy, the super-talented player would certainly be looking forward to a major starring role following the loss of Federica Brignone.

Already on the podium three times at the age of 18

The technical specialist showed last winter that she is a superstar of the future. Colturi made it to the podium three times in the World Cup – and she did so at just 18 years old. This super talent would certainly be welcomed with open arms in Italy.
