After the Olympics: Ski cross athletes take no break

The Olympic competition in Livigno only took place on Saturday. But the world's best ski cross athletes will be back in action in the coming days.

Olympic champion Simone Deromedis and silver medalist Federico Tomasoni will lead the Italian team at the next World Cup stop, just days after their fairytale one-two finish in Livigno. The competition begins on Wednesday in Kopaonik, Serbia, with the first qualifying round for the two races on Friday and Saturday.

In addition to Deromedis and Tomasoni, the men's competition will also include the two South Tyroleans Yanick Gunsch, Dominik Zuech, and Edoardo Zorzi, while the women's field will feature Jole Galli and Andrea Chesi. Gunsch was not present in Livigno, but Zuech reached the quarterfinals at the Olympics two days ago, where he was eliminated by the eventual medalists.

Zuech did, however, manage to finish ahead of World Cup leader Reece Howden at the Olympics. The Canadian leads the overall standings with 593 points. Deromedis (460 points) travels to Serbia in second place. The Ski Cross World Cup continues until the end of March, so the Trentino native still has every chance.
