Swiss festival on Haunold

Since the weather on Saturday and Sunday morning was not ideal with heavy snowfall, the tireless efforts of the many volunteers made the Sunday race possible.

Berry prevailed in the final ahead of Bastien Midol (France) and Jonas Lenherr (Switzerland). The overall World Cup leader and fastest in the qualification, Kevin Drury (Canada), surprisingly failed in the round of 16.

“I came here with a great feeling,” said Berry after his triumph. No wonder, as the Swiss had already celebrated his first and only World Cup victory at Haunold last year - and that too on December 22.12nd. Berry also feels very comfortable off the piste in San Candido. “Everything around here is great, we are really pampered here.”

Siegmar Klotz from Pawigl near Lana explained after his round of 16 exit: “Unfortunately it was a short pleasure. I wasn’t actually in a bad mood, but I didn’t get off to a good start.”

21st World Cup victory for Smith Fanny Smith not only celebrated her 21st World Cup victory for women, but also her fourth on the Haunold slope. “I like San Candido,” said the 27-year-old, who left behind Marielle Thompson (Canada) and Daniela Maier from Germany in the final. “It’s always nice here, the slopes are attractive,” emphasized Smith. “You can do a lot of overtaking maneuvers, it's a complete ski cross course.” The overall World Cup leader Sandra Naeslund crossed the finish line in fourth place after a mistake in the final part, but was still able to be happy.

Naeslund and Drury win Cross Alps Tour In addition to the World Cup day winners, the overall winners of the Cross Alps Tour were also chosen at Haunold. This is a separate classification that was modeled on the Four Hills Tournament in ski jumping. The results of the first four World Cup stages in Val Thorens (France), Montafon (Austria), Arosa (Switzerland) and Innichen (Italy/South Tyrol) were included in the ranking.

Naeslund won this women's ranking ahead of Smith and Thompson. In the men's category, the Cross Alps Tour victory went to Kevin Drury. His Canadian compatriot Kristofor Mahler secured second place, while Bastien Midol came third. Organizers satisfied The organizers were happy with the event. “The track wasn’t very fast due to the snow conditions. This allowed the athletes to attack even more and there were many overtaking maneuvers. That made the races very interesting,” said Helmuth Senfter, head of the organizing committee. “There were few falls as the conditions were ultimately ideal.”

Senfter praised the more than 100 volunteers who ensured that the Sunday race was held through their tireless efforts, some of them at night. “The snow had to be shoveled off the slopes by hand. I would like to thank all the helpers, especially the 40 members of the army, without whom we would not have been able to achieve this.”

Swiss festival on Haunold
