Zuech at the Montafon World Cup – Gunsch narrowly out

At the World Cup in Montafon (Austria), five Azzurri qualified for the ski cross finals – including one from South Tyrol.

From a local perspective, the focus is primarily on Dominik Zuech: The Lana native finished 17th in the qualification and thus made it into the top 32.

The fastest time in the men's heat went to Canadian Reece Howden (52,87 seconds), ahead of Swiss Ryan Regez (+0,33) and Canadian Jared Schmidt (+0,64). Olympic champion Simone Deromedis from Trentino finished seventh (+0,85). Behind Zuech, Federico Tomasoni and Edoardo Zorzi finished in 23rd place (+1,84).

The second South Tyrolean, however, narrowly missed out on the finals: Yanick Gunsch from Matsch finished in 33rd place and missed the top 32 – and thus promotion – by just twelve hundredths of a second.

In the women's qualifying, Italy's Jole Galli was only beaten by Germany's Daniela Maier. Maier prevailed with a time of 56,37 seconds, ahead of Galli (+0,45) and Sweden's Sandra Näslund (+0,64).

The finals in Montafon begin on Thursday at 1:20 pm.
