"Cried all day": Sad Winter Games for ski jumpers

For Johann André Forfang, the sporting results at the Olympic Games have taken a back seat in light of his father's death. Now he has given a profound insight into his feelings.

Johann André Forfang is grieving. "It was a very special preparation. I basically cried all day," said the Norwegian ski jumper. Before his Olympic competition in Predazzo, he listened to a playlist he had made with his recently deceased father. "I haven't competed in many competitions without him being there. It's very difficult and unusual," Forfang told the Norwegian tabloid. Dagbladet.

He finished ninth in Philipp Raimund's Olympic victory on Monday evening. The result pales in comparison to his tragic loss. Wearing a specially inscribed glove, the 30-year-old paid tribute in the outrun to his father, who succumbed to cancer at the age of 68.

The funeral is to take place after the Winter Games. "I'm relieved that I didn't have to choose between the Olympic Games and the funeral," Forfang told the Norwegian broadcaster. NRK.
