Deep sorrow: Former ski jumper dies at 33

Sad news reached the winter sports world this weekend: A former ski jumper has died.

The Polish Ski Federation released shocking news on Saturday: Grzegorz Mietus has died unexpectedly. The former ski jumper was only 33 years old. "This is a very sad day for Polish ski jumping," the Polish Ski Federation wrote, without elaborating on the circumstances of his death. According to local media reports, authorities have launched an investigation.

Grzegorz Mietus was a familiar face in the Polish ski jumping scene. He made his World Cup debut in Zakopane in 2010, and shortly afterward achieved his best career result with 20th place in Willingen. His career, however, came to an early end: Mietus retired at the age of 23 and then switched careers, most recently working as a coach.

Now comes the shocking news that has caused great dismay in Poland. Mietus leaves behind his wife and two children.
