There were no surprises in Predazzo

The first ski jumping competition of the Winter Olympics in Predazzo failed to produce any major surprises – also from the perspective of the Italian female ski jumpers.

Jessica Malsiner made her Olympic debut on Saturday in Predazzo. Things didn't go particularly well for the 23-year-old from Ortisei in Val Gardena. Having scored no points in the World Cup for two years, Malsiner also failed to qualify for the second round on the normal hill (HS 107) at the Olympics.

Martina Ambrosi and Martina Zanitzer fared no better. Only Annika Sieff managed to reach the final. However, the Trentino native didn't exactly cause a sensation. Sieff finished the normal hill competition in 19th place. The next opportunity for the female ski jumpers will be on Tuesday, when the mixed event takes place on the normal hill.

Prevc has to admit defeat.

There was a slight disappointment for Nika Prevc, the dominant force in the women's World Cup. The Slovenian finished "only" second, having to concede victory to Norway's Anna Ström. Nozomi Maruyama from Japan completed the podium in third place, securing Olympic bronze.
