Insam fails on the first jump from the large hill.

For Alex Insam, the adventure on the large hill (HS 141) is over after just one jump. The Val Gardena native missed out on the final at the Olympic Games in Predazzo.

An Italian jumper has qualified for the large hill final. Giovanni Bresadola (26th) will have the opportunity to prove himself in the final thanks to a jump of 130,5 meters. Unfortunately for Bresadola, he had some stylistic issues and didn't receive high marks. Furthermore, the Italian jumper started from gate 17, before most of the subsequent jumpers began from gate 15.

Insam, who jumped 128 meters, also missed out on qualification for the final, finishing in 35th place, about six points behind. Besides Insam, several other prominent jumpers were eliminated: Marius Lindvik (32nd), Timi Zajc (34th), and Stefan Kraft (36th) all failed to qualify.

Austria's star Daniel Tschofenig was disqualified. The reason was his shoe. The size was incorrect, therefore Tschofenig (who would have finished eighth) was removed from the standings.
