“Embarrassing”: Norwegian Lindvik cancels tour

Norwegian ski jumping Olympic champion Marius Lindvik has ended the Four Hills Tournament prematurely after failing to qualify for the Bergisel jump.

The controversial world champion from the World Championships in Trondheim last February, which were overshadowed by a manipulation scandal, finished no higher than 51st on Saturday. He was 0,7 points away from the top 50. "It's so bad it's embarrassing," Lindvik told the Norwegian daily newspaper Dagbladet.

He had no explanation for why it happened. "It's annoying," added Lindvik, who, according to the federation, will now put in extra training sessions in Lillehammer and skip the Epiphany jump in Bischofshofen. The daily newspaper Verdens Gang described the fall to just 111,5 meters as a "fiasco." At the previous stops of the Four Hills Tournament, the 27-year-old had finished 23rd (Oberstdorf) and 22nd (Garmisch-Partenkirchen). Benjamin Oestvold was called up to replace Lindvik.

The Norwegian team, which manipulated its suits at the home World Championships, is lagging behind in the 74th Four Hills Tournament so far. Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal is currently the best Norwegian, sitting in twelfth place in the overall tournament standings.
