First victory: Deschwanden triumphs at Holmenkollen

Gregor Deschwanden celebrated his first victory at the highest level at the World Cup in Oslo. The Swiss skier prevailed at Holmenkollen in difficult conditions.

Despite challenging conditions at Holmenkollen, Gregor Deschwanden provided the highlight of the day on Saturday. The 35-year-old Swiss ski jumper won his first World Cup event in Oslo, battling difficult winds and gathering fog. Austrian Maximilian Ortner (-1,4 points) and Japan's Naoki Nakamura (-11,4 points) finished behind him on the podium. The early exit of overall World Cup winner Domen Prevc, who finished 42nd and missed the final round, also caused a surprise.

The challenging conditions on the historic ski jump caused problems for many jumpers and led to some unexpected results. While Deschwanden celebrated his maiden victory, several well-known athletes fell well short of expectations. The next competition is already scheduled for Sunday in Oslo, before the final stops of the season in Vikersund and Planica.

In the women's competition, however, there was a clear victory: Nika Prevc prevailed over Nozomi Maruyama and Anna Odine Strøm. Annika Sieff from Trentino finished in 14th place, while Martina Zanitzer came in 30th.
