Four Hills Tournament: First winner at Bergisel

In front of a sold-out crowd at the Bergisel ski jump in Innsbruck, there was a first-time winner at the Four Hills Tournament on Sunday. For Alex Insam, however, there was no happy ending in North Tyrol.

Alex Insam only managed 44th place (out of 50 starters) in the end. The Val Gardena native had at least qualified for the main event at Bergisel, but together with Giovanni Bresadola (49th), the Italians were unable to score any points on the traditional hill in Innsbruck.

Ren Nikaido took the victory in Innsbruck. The Japanese jumper, a first-time World Cup winner, secured the win with jumps of 131 and 128 meters. Domen Prevc, the previous Four Hills Tournament dominator, suffered his first defeat, finishing in second place (just 0,5 points behind). The Slovenian continues to lead the overall Four Hills Tournament standings. Stephan Embacher (AUT) completed the podium in third place.

The Four Hills Tournament concludes on Tuesday in Bischofshofen with the traditional Epiphany jump. Prevc is virtually uncatchable, having won by a large margin in Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
