Wildly fluctuating wind conditions thwarted the plans of the jumpers and organizers. After the start time was postponed several times, the event was ultimately canceled. The qualifying round had also been called off earlier due to unstable winds. Two more ski jumping competitions are scheduled for next week in Planica, Slovenia.
“It was coming. Given the conditions, it doesn't make sense,” said Maximilian Ortner. Stephan Embacher, who had secured his first World Cup victory the previous day, also felt the conditions weren't right for competition. The Tyrolean, who had been feeling unwell on Saturday, felt he was in better physical shape. “Today would have been better. The important thing is that I feel good for Planica,” Embacher told ORF.
Embacher chased by Prevc in Planica
In Slovenia, the 20-year-old defends his 15-point lead in the Ski Flying World Cup over local favorite Domen Prevc. "He's still the best. But I'll take up the fight and give it my all," said Embacher. Head coach Andreas Widhölzl noted that the same team that traveled to Vikersund will also be heading to Planica.During qualifying, Poland's Kacper Tomasiak, who started with pole position number one, crashed heavily after landing, hitting his head hard. He had to be stretchered off to hospital for examination. According to initial checks, Tomasiak did not suffer any serious injuries.
