Wind lottery at Holmenkollen brings Japanese victory

A Ski Jumping World Cup event took place on Sunday at Holmenkollen in Oslo, Norway. The conditions presented the athletes with some difficulties.

The Ski Jumping World Cup competition at Oslo's Holmenkollen on Sunday was disrupted by difficult wind conditions. Japan's Tomofumi Naito won the wind lottery after only one round, finishing 0,1 points ahead of Slovenia's Anze Lanisek and 1,1 points ahead of Finland's Antti Aalto. The best Austrian was Stephan Embacher in sixth place, 7,2 points shy of the podium. Daniel Tschofenig and Ryoyo Kobayashi (JPN) were completely out of contention.

For Naito, it was his first World Cup victory. The 33-year-old had never previously stood on the World Cup podium. Slovenian World Cup dominator Domen Prevc, after finishing 42nd on Saturday, came in ninth this time with a safe jump of 127,5 meters. Alex Insam from Val Gardena, on the other hand, finished in 56th place. The World Cup season now concludes with the ski flying competitions in Vikersund and Planica.

Japanese double victory in women's competition – Eder only 20th.

Overall World Cup winner Nika Prevc failed to repeat her Saturday victory on her 21st birthday: Yuki Ito, also Japanese, surprisingly took the win, just 0,5 points ahead of her compatriot Nozomi Maruyama. Maruyama botched her landing in the second round, costing her the victory. Norwegian Anna Odine Ström finished third again.
