The Ski Touring World Cup will be in Martell on Sunday

The international association ISMF has shown that the organizers in Martell are confident of holding an event of this magnitude, even though the “Marmotta” is still a relatively young race. The Martellers have accepted this challenge and are preparing conscientiously for the event so that everything can go as perfectly as possible.

In any case, the mountains where the race will take place are perfect. Another 35cm of new snow has fallen in the last few days and with the amount of snow already present, the conditions on the route should be very good. The weather report also predicts nice weather for the coming days. The panorama in the Ortler-Cevedale Group is unique anyway and therefore the external conditions for the first World Cup race that takes place in South Tyrol will certainly be top.

When you talk about a World Cup race, you naturally also think of the big names in ski mountaineering. And in fact almost all well-known world-class ski tourers will take part in the “Marmotta”. In the women's category, for example, World Cup leader Mireia Mirò Varela from Spain will be there. The men's competitors include William Bon Mardion (FRA) and Kilian Jornet Burgada (ESP), both multiple medal winners at World and European Championships and currently among the leaders of the overall World Cup.

As far as the Italian national team is concerned, the final announcement is still pending and the names of the participating “Azzurri” are not yet known. The responsible trainers will certainly send their currently best athletes to the “home race” in Martell.

There are two different routes planned for the race itself, a long, demanding route for the men and a slightly shorter route for the women and youth categories. The former is approx. 13,6 km long and has an altitude difference of 1.757m. There are five ascents and four descents to overcome. The second route is much shorter at 9,6km and has an altitude difference of 1.347m with four ascents and three descents. The start for both routes is in the rear of the Martell Valley, right after the end of the state road at the former Hotel Paradiso. As race director Egon Eberhöfer announced, the conditions on the track have been almost perfect in the last few days. Yesterday's snowfall shouldn't change that much.

The race begins on Sunday morning at 9.00:9.20 a.m. with the start of the ISMF Women's World Cup. At 9.25 a.m. it is the men's turn and at 2 a.m. the participants in the FISI and ASTC races start. Registrations for the race are open until March 35nd. The registration fee is €15 for the adults and €XNUMX for the youth categories, with a great starter pack and two meals included in the price.
