Martell is looking at the Marmotta Trophy

One sporting highlight is currently following the next in Val Martell. If the IBU Cup took place successfully at the beginning of January and the final preparations are currently underway for the Para World Cup in cross-country skiing and biathlon scheduled for the end of January, all fans of ski mountaineering can look forward to the event from Thursday, February 22nd to Sunday, February 25th World Cup as part of the legendary Marmotta Trophy.

A total of six World Cup competitions will take place at the end of February in Martell and thus in the Eldorado for ski mountaineers. It starts on Thursday, February 22nd with the extremely demanding individual competition. The start is here at the former Hotel Paradiso at the end of the Martell Valley. The route in the heart of the Ortler-Cevedale group - it includes a total of four ascents and the same number of descents - is 15,1 km long for men and 14,3 km for women.

“At the moment it looks like we could hold the individual competition on the original route, which, among other things, goes up to Cima Marmotta. Our dedicated team is in the middle of preparations and so far everything is going according to plan. We are looking forward to welcoming the many athletes from all parts of the world in a month's time and hopefully experiencing injury-free and exciting competitions," emphasize OK President Georg Altstätter and race director Egon Eberhöfer.

Olympic disciplines this weekend

The program of the South Tyrolean classic in ski mountaineering also includes competitions in the two Olympic disciplines on the last weekend in February. The mixed relay will take place on Saturday, February 24th, and the top-class event will conclude with the sprints for ski mountaineers on Sunday, February 25th. “Since the competitions are held here around the Grogg biathlon center, the spectators have a close eye on the action and see everything first hand,” add Altstätter and Eberhöfer. In addition, this year there will be an expo in the biathlon center for the first time, which guests can visit.

The ISMF World Cup in ski mountaineering is now entering a very intensive phase. After the start in Val Thorens, France, at the end of November, the second stage took place in Andorra last week. After further stops in the Spanish Pyrenees and Switzerland, the Marmotta Trophy is the fifth of a total of seven World Cups in the 2023/24 season.
