Ouch! Austria's Olympic hopeful suffers serious surfing accident

Olympic snowboard champion Anna Gasser suffered a painful accident during her free time.

As the Austrian explained on Instagram, she suffered a shoulder dislocation while surfing. "Decided to fix it immediately to be back at 100 percent for next season," Gasser wrote.

The operation was carried out last Friday in Hochrum, said an ÖSV spokesperson on WATER-Request. Gasser now has to radically re-plan his training.

Gasser suffered a torn labrum in his left shoulder in an accident on an artificial surfing wave, and his biceps tendon was also partially damaged. In consultation with the doctors, the decision was made to undergo surgery because it offered a better chance of the joint regaining full stability than with conservative treatment.

The hope is that the injury will be fully healed by fall or late fall. Such an injury typically takes several weeks to months to heal.

World Cup planning completely open

Gasser aims to pursue her third gold medal in her signature discipline, Big Air, at the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan/Cortina. The first Big Air World Cup will take place at the end of November in Secret Garden, China – whether Gasser will be able to compete is uncertain. The summer training planned for mid-August in Australia will definitely be canceled.
