Bormolini cruises to third consecutive victory

Maurizio Bormolini remains the man to beat in the Snowboard World Cup. In Spindleruv Mlyn, the Italian celebrated his third consecutive victory, further extending his lead in the overall World Cup standings.

Following his double victory in Poland last weekend, this is already his fifth win of the season. The snowboarder from Livigno prevailed in the final against Japan's Ryusuke Shinohara. On his way to the top, Bormolini had already eliminated Switzerland's Dario Caviezel and Bulgaria's Tervel Zamfirov. For the Italian, it was the twelfth World Cup victory of his career – evenly distributed between parallel slalom and parallel giant slalom.

Behind him, Mirko Felicetti delivered another strong result for Italy. The 32-year-old won the small final against Caviezel, securing his 16th World Cup podium finish. For Felicetti, it was his third top-three finish this season and his first slalom podium since January 2016. The South Tyrolean quartet of Aaron March (quarterfinals), Gabriel Messner (quarterfinals), Daniele Bagozza (round of 16), and Tommy Rabanser (round of 16) were eliminated earlier.

Caffon narrowly misses the podium.

In the overall standings, Bormolini is clearly in the lead with 820 points, followed by March in second place with 631 points. Bormolini also leads the slalom standings (232 points) ahead of his teammate from Völs. Three races remain this season – two parallel giant slaloms and one slalom.

Elisa Caffont narrowly missed the podium in the women's competition. The Italian lost the battle for third place to the Netherlands' Michelle Dekker and finished fourth. The victory went to Japan's Tsubaki Miki, who benefited from a mistake by the Czech Republic's Zuzana Maderová in the final. The Parallel World Cup continues next weekend in Val St. Come, Canada, with two parallel giant slalom races scheduled.
