Dusek wins Montafon thanks to a furious finish

Jakob Dusek secured victory at the Snowboard Cross World Cup in Montafon on Sunday with a furious final maneuver.

The 29-year-old from Lower Austria and Olympic bronze medalist from Livigno was in fourth place at the end of the final, but overtook all his competitors and celebrated his sixth World Cup victory. Dusek, incidentally, won all four runs from the round of 16 onwards. The best Italian was Matteo Rezzoli in 14th place. Omar Visintin from Algund did not participate.

“It was unbelievable, I’m so happy it worked out,” a jubilant Dusek said, referring to his spectacular overtaking maneuver. “I was a bit behind in the grand final, but then I got such good momentum into the last corner… simply awesome.” He added that he had managed to maintain his speed in the lower section, even in the previous runs. Dusek won ahead of Germany’s Leon Ulbricht and France’s Aidan Chollet.
