Florian Lechner, 18, from Salzburg, who has previously ridden for Germany, will compete for the ÖSV for the first time this weekend in China.
The Bavarian native has lived in Saalbach since his childhood and has German and Austrian citizenship. His best World Cup result to date was 15th place in Copper Mountain last season.
"I made good progress last season and have now completed a very good preparation in perfect conditions on the Kitzsteinhorn. I concentrated mainly on consolidating my tricks," said Lechner before his debut for the red-white-red team on Friday in China's Secret Garden.
His long-term goal is to qualify for the 2026 Olympic Games. Johannes Handle was the last Austrian to compete for Austria in the Halfpipe World Cup in New Zealand in August 2012.
