Italian success at the Snowboard World Cup in Poland

In Krynica (Poland), parallel giant slalom races for snowboarders, both men's and women's, took place on Saturday. From an Italian perspective, these races brought some success, but the South Tyrolean athletes had a disastrous day.

Following his victory the previous day, Maurizio Bormolini also triumphed in Sunday's men's parallel giant slalom. In the final, the 32-year-old from Livigno edged out Germany's Stefan Baumeister by nine hundredths of a second. This was Bormolini's fourth World Cup victory of the season. In the small final, Switzerland's Dario Caviezel narrowly edged out Austrian snowboarding legend Benjamin Karl to take third place.

From a South Tyrolean perspective, Sunday was a day to forget. Both Aaron March and Roland Fischnaller (who finished sixth on Saturday) were eliminated in the round of 16 of the parallel giant slalom – "Fisch" didn't even make it to the finish line.

Coratti out in the round of 16

In the women's competition, Lucia Dalmasso of Italy reached the final, but was narrowly defeated in a photo finish by Austria's Sabine Payer. Malena Zamfirova of Bulgaria took third place. For Jasmin Coratti from Graun, however, it was also a disappointing weekend in Krynica. After finishing 13th on Saturday, she could only manage 11th place on Sunday – her run ended in the round of 16.
