Junior World Championships: Edwin Coratti takes bronze

Edwin Coratti won the bronze medal in the parallel giant slalom. The 19-year-old from Langtaufers was already one of the hottest medal contenders before the race due to his giant slalom world championship title in New Zealand last year. He fully lived up to expectations: as fourth in the qualification, he easily progressed to the knockout phase. There he continued his winning ways before failing in the semi-finals against the confident European Cup winner Lukas Mathies from Austria. Ultimately, Coratti secured the bronze medal. The Slovenian Tim Mastnak was crowned the new world champion and surprisingly had the upper hand in the final against Mathies. Meanwhile, Hannes Hofer from Villnöß was able to get closer to the top field in 15th place.

In the women's race, all eyes were on Coratti's girlfriend Nadya Ochner. As the European Cup winner, she had legitimate hopes of winning a medal. But nothing came of it because, despite a good performance, the Burggräfler narrowly failed to beat the Austrian Bernadette Ernst. In the end she took fifth place. World Cup experienced Julie Zogg from Switzerland won the gold medal. She relegated her teammate Stefanie Müller and the German Cheyenne Loche to the places.
