March rejoices: Final victory and crystal ball

At the final parallel snowboard event of the winter, the Azzurri, so dominant this season, once again put on a spectacular performance. With this victory, Aaron March and Lucia Dalmasso also secured the Crystal Globe in the team competition.

In the parallel slalom team event in Winterberg, Aaron March and Lucia Dalmasso secured the final World Cup victory of the season in spring-like conditions. Behind the Italian duo, Austria 1, with Andreas Prommegger and Sabine Payer, finished second, while third place went to the Canadians Arnaud Gaudet and Aurelie Moisan, who won the small final.

On their way to victory, March and Dalmasso first had to overcome a tricky quarter-final hurdle. Against Germany 1, with Ramona Hofmeister and Ole-Mikkel Prantl, Italy 2 initially fell behind after March lost her duel. But Dalmasso then turned things around: The Italian capitalized on a major error by Hofmeister, made up a deficit of almost two seconds, and pulled ahead. This allowed Italy to reach the semi-finals, where March and Dalmasso confidently secured their place in the final against Gaudet and Moisan.

There, an experienced duo from Austria 1 awaited them. March kept his duel against Prommegger close for a long time, but finished 23 hundredths of a second behind, having lost some time, especially in the lower section. This meant it all came down to Dalmasso again – and she kept her cool. While Payer made a mistake in the decisive run, the Italian remained calm and secured the victory.

The rest of the Azzurri faltered.

For March and Dalmasso, it was another major success in a strong team season. They finished on the podium in all three parallel team events this winter, twice even taking the top spot. They also secured the team crystal globe. For the other Italian teams, however, the competition ended early: Gabriel Messner and Jasmin Coratti, as well as Maurizio Bormolini and Elisa Caffont, were both eliminated in the round of 16.
