500 winter sports enthusiasts take part in the Bike Challenge Tour

– Last Friday, Brixen was the venue for the finale of this year's Bike Challenge Tour, which was organized by the South Tyrolean Winter Sports Association in collaboration with various clubs over the past few weeks. The overall winners were “Cuccioli Sella – Sciclub Gröden” (VSS U12), “Di Sarner Tretar – ASC Sarntal” (Grand Prix U15) and “Gredner Bluat isch koa Himprsoft – Sciclub Gröden” (Junior & Over).

Despite the pouring rain, 21 teams with five cyclists each tackled the Stelvio virtually on Wahoo bikes. The young athletes performed respectably and achieved impressive performances. Numerous personalities were also there, such as the three-time World Cup medalist Manfred Mölgg, artificial track luger Leon Felderer, the skiing hopefuls Hannes Zingerle and Tobias Kastlunger, Brixen's city councilor for sport Andreas Jungmann, Stefan Gasser as section leader of the WSV Brixen and of course Markus Ortler as president of the state winter sports association.

After Val Gardena, Meran, Bruneck and Ora, Brixen was the last of five stages of this year's Bike Challenge Tour. 100 teams from 30 different clubs with around 500 active winter sports participants took part in the campaign, which was organized by the state winter sports association under coordinator Stefan Leitner in collaboration with the local clubs over the course of this summer.

Two teams from Val Gardena and a team from Sarntal cannot be stopped

In the VSS U12 age group, Filip Burger, Robin Kelder, Matias Piazza, Manuel Ploner and Tobias Schmalzl were the overall winners, covering 10,22 kilometers together and thus helping the “Cuccioli Sella” team from the Sciclub Val Gardena to victory. In the “Di Sarner Tretar” from ASC Sarntal – the winning team in the Grand Prix U15 category – Max Spögler, Gabriel Stauder, Valeria Thaler, Philipp Filehner and Julian Plieger pedaled the hardest. In the end, the quintet completed 10,77 kilometers.

A team from the Sciclub Val Gardena – Gredner Bluat isch koa Himprsoft – was also successful in the Junior&Over category. Thomas Piazza, Simon Piccolruaz, Marc Delladio, Alex Oberbacher and Gabriel Insam were used here and “pedaled” 13,64 kilometers together. Of all the participating teams, one team reached the Stilfserjoch in the end, namely the state cross-country team (Elias Oberhöller, Aaron Gallmetzer, Matteo Piazzi, Ruben Wurzer, David Oberhofer), which, however, competed out of competition. Due to its great success, the Bike Challenge Tour will most likely take place next year.
