Biathletes and cross-country skiers show off in a big way

On Saturday a sprint took place in the Aosta Valley. In the U15 age group, Felix Wolf (Antholz) took second place among the young boys, while Sara Eisath took the bronze medal among the girls of the same age. In the U13, Elia Steinkasserer (Antholz) won the gold medal, while his teammates Anna Wolf and Mia Pedevilla won gold and bronze respectively. The local biathletes won four gold medals.

24 hours later the medals were on the line in the pursuit competition. As in the sprint, Felix Wolf took third place, while Sara Eisath narrowly missed the podium in fourth place. Among the younger ski hunters, Elia Steinkasserer and Anna Wolf once again won the gold medal, while Mia Pedevilla once again took third place. What was particularly pleasing was that seven South Tyroleans were in the top eight positions for the U13 girls in this competition.

Cross-country skiing: Schilpario was worth the trip Several South Tyrolean cross-country skiers were successful in a stage of the Italian Cup in Schilpario (Bergamo province). Emma Schwitzer won a distance race over 16 km in the U10 category and came second in the Nordic Sprint. Her teammate Anna Sagmeister took third place in the distance race. In the Nordic Sprint, Romina Bachmann celebrated the day's victory in the U20 age group, while Marta Belotti took second place in the U18 distance race. In the women's senior category, Ylvie Folie also narrowly had to admit defeat in second place over 10 km.

4 South Tyroleans at the Junior Nordic World Ski Championships A quartet from South Tyrol is taking part in the junior Nordic ski championships in Planica, Slovenia. Maximilian Gartner (Gröden) will compete in the ski jumping competitions this week, while Anna Senoner and Manuel Senoner (also both from Val Gardena) will be in action in the Nordic combined. Sara Hutter (Laas/Police Sports Group), however, will take part in the cross-country skiing competitions.

Snowboard: Victory and second place in Haus im Ennstal South Tyrol's snowboarders were able to celebrate two podium places at a FIS junior race in Haus im Ennstal (Styria). Tommy Rabanser from Val Gardena only had to admit defeat to the Austrian Julian Treffler in the first of two parallel giant slaloms. In the second decision, Elias Zimmerhofer (Villnöß) celebrated the day's victory.

Freestyle: Victory and third place at the regional championships The new regional champions in slopestyle were crowned at Monte Bondone. Nicole Bazzanella (Seiser Alm Ski Team) won the gold medal in the “Allievi” category, that is, the 2009 and 2010 vintages. In the “Giovani” age group – those born between 2004 and 2008 – Samuel Brunner (ASC Olang) was pleased to receive the bronze medal.

Tobogganing: double shift in Latsch The Gumpfrei-Bahn in Laces was the venue for two youth races for the Raiffeisen Youth Cup at the weekend. The race was done with a racing toboggan or a sports toboggan. The winners of the day at a glance:

Last weekend, South Tyrol's young winter sports talent achieved numerous successes in a wide variety of disciplines. Starting with the young ski hunters who crowned their Italian champions in Brusson. The local biathletes won gold no fewer than four times.
