Curling: Italy misses out on the final

Italy's bid to defend their title in the mixed doubles curling competition was unsuccessful. The reigning champions were narrowly defeated by the USA in the semifinals.

Since 2018, the Olympic curling games have included a mixed team event alongside the classic team competition. The Italian pair, Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner, secured the gold medal four years ago and thus started as the reigning champions.

After a solid preliminary round, which saw the duo finish in second place, the two crowd favorites faced the team from the USA. Ironically, just a few hours earlier, the two teams had faced each other in the preliminary round.

While the already qualified Italians, who attracted over two million viewers during the group stage, won their "worthless" match in the morning 7-6, the semi-final went to the Americans by a narrow 9-8 margin. Italy will now face Great Britain for the bronze medal.
