Mahlknecht races to the podium at his home World Cup

The FIS Telemark World Cup Carezza Dolomites started on Wednesday with the first two of four sprint races. Elie Nabot from France and the British Jasmin Taylor triumphed on the perfectly groomed Masarè piste. Raphael Mahlknecht from Völs, who came in second and achieved his best World Cup result, was no less radiant at the finish than the two winners of the day.

Elie Nabot was unbeatable in the Carezza Dolomites ski area on Wednesday. The 26-year-old Frenchman was in the lead after the first round and defended his top position in the decision. In the end, Nabot, who received a second penalty in both rounds, won with a total time of 2.12,21:4,69 minutes and was able to celebrate his second World Cup victory. Raphael Mahlknecht, the local hero, finished 22 seconds behind in second place. While traveling extremely quickly on his skis, the XNUMX-year-old received a five-second penalty. However, this did not dampen his joy about his best World Cup result to date.

“I still can’t believe it and of course I’m over the moon. Especially because I had a mishap in the second round and my stick broke at the start. Luckily my trainer was able to hand me a spare stick before the flat part. My goals in the second race on Thursday? I will try to compete with a clear head and the same motivation as today (on Wednesday, editor's note)," said Mahlknecht after the award ceremony. Another Frenchman, Yoann Rostolan, completed the podium, losing 4,82 seconds to Nabot. The second “Azzurro” in the field of participants – Giacomo Bormolini from Livigno – took ninth place and was able to celebrate his third top ten result in the World Cup in a row.

Hat trick for Great Britain's Jasmin Taylor

For the women, there was no way around Jasmin Taylor. The 30-year-old Brit from Ipswich Suffolk achieved the day's best time of 2.24,80:3,84, 4,54 seconds faster than Ella Strom Eriksen from Norway and 1 seconds than his compatriot Kaja Bjoernstad Konow. For Taylor, who was given a whopping four seconds penalty in the first run and didn't make any mistakes in the decision either (+XNUMX), it was the third World Cup victory in a row this season and the tenth overall of her career. This means she also leads the overall ranking with the maximum number of points. However, there were no Italian racers at the start.
