South Tyrol shines not only at the Olympic opening.

Dominik Paris' bronze medal in the downhill at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics sent South Tyrolean alpine skiing fans into raptures on Saturday. But it wasn't just the exceptional athlete from Ulten who shone: From top results at the Marlene Cup in Ulten, to European Cup debuts in Sarntal, and strong performances by U14 and U16 athletes at the Raiffeisen Grand Prix in Ratschings – the local talents have had another exciting week of alpine skiing.

The week kicked off with the FIS Alpine Skiing European Cup for women in Reinswald, where two Super-G races were on the program for Monday and Wednesday. At the 20th anniversary event for the organizers in Sarnen, Nora Damian from the South Tyrol regional team made her debut in the second-highest competition class of alpine skiing. On Monday, the skier from Tiers finished 62nd on the Schöeneben slope, but was eliminated on Wednesday. Her regional team colleague, Leonie Girtler, also competed. The skier from Mauls was eliminated in the first Super-G, but finished 33rd in the second on Wednesday.

Unfortunately, there is also some bad news: At the FIS race in Valtournenche (Aosta) last Wednesday, regional team athlete Alex Silbernagl (Kastelruth) suffered a serious injury in the Super-G and will be sidelined for an extended period with a broken tibia and fibula. From a sporting perspective, Alois Baldini Köllemann (St. Valentin auf der Heide) and Noah Gamper (Marling), both from the South Tyrol regional team, narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth and fifth respectively.

On Monday and Tuesday, a total of four giant slalom races were held on the Seiser Alm, all of which counted as FIS races. The South Tyrolean regional team athletes shone with a host of top results. In the first giant slalom on Monday, Jonas Feichter (Taisten) took the victory ahead of David Castlunger (Stern) and the Italian Gabriele Lenuzza. In the second men's race on Tuesday, Castlunger also took the win, with Alex Silbernagl finishing third behind the Argentinian Nicolas Quintero, just one day before he was injured in Valtournenche. In the women's race, Nadine Trocker (Seiser Alm Ski Team) won ahead of Nora Pernstich (Aldein) and the Canadian Arianne Forget. On Tuesday, Trocker and Pernstich repeated their placings, with Christina Bühler from Liechtenstein taking third place this time.

Eighth stage of the Marlene Cup in Ulten

Several youth races were also on the program in South Tyrol over the weekend. On Saturday, the eighth stage of the Marlene Cup was held in Ulten on the Asmol-Schwemmalm slope. In the U21 category, regional team athlete Alois Baldini Köllemann and Ulten local favorite Selina Trafoier took the day's victories in the giant slalom. In the men's race, Valentin Sparber (RG Wipptal) and Alberto Davare (Skiteam Alta Badia) also reached the podium, while second and third place in the women's U21 category went to regional team athlete Leonie Girtler and Valentina Fill (Kronplatz Skiteam).

Noah Gasteiger (ASC Gsiesertal) and Matthias Mahlknecht (SC Gröden) finished second and third, respectively.

Third stage of the Raiffeisen Grand Prix Landescup

The third stage of the Raiffeisen Grand Prix Landescup took place over the weekend in Ratschings on the Rinneralm slope. On Saturday, the U16 athletes competed in the Super-G, followed by the U14 skiers on Sunday. In the U16 category, with over 110 participants, Carmen Gschliesser (RG Wipptal/55,74 seconds) and Simon Kaser (Seiser Alm Skiteam/54,20 seconds) secured the day's victories. Also reaching the women's podium were the two SC Gröden athletes, Francesca Miribung (56,01 seconds) and Vicky Insam (56,58 seconds).
