The Telemark World Cup is taking place in Carezza.

Now the telemark skiers are racing for World Cup points in Carezza.

Next week, Carezza Dolomites will once again be the epicenter of the international telemark skiing scene. On January 14th and 15th, 2026, the popular ski resort below the Rosengarten and Latemar mountains will host a total of four sprint races in this traditional winter sport discipline. This marks the fourth edition of the FIS Telemark World Cup in South Tyrol.

The Telemark Ski World Cup season is still young. Only one stage has taken place in the 2025/26 winter season. Last weekend before Christmas, the circuit visited Pinzolo in Trentino, where two sprints each were held for men and women. For South Tyrol's only World Cup athlete, Raphael Mahlknecht, it was a successful competition. In the first race, the 24-year-old from Völs finished fourth, while 24 hours later he climbed onto the podium, taking third place. It was his fifth top-three finish in the premier telemark skiing series.

Raphael Mahlknecht seems ready for his "real" home races, which will take place in exactly one week – just a few kilometers from his hometown of Völs. Home races where he's even made it onto the podium before. That was two years ago, when he narrowly missed victory, finishing second with his best World Cup result. Will he finally achieve his big breakthrough this year?

Perfect conditions for a true sporting festival

The conditions for Mahlknecht's heroic feat are certainly in place – at least as far as the slope and organization are concerned. While it hasn't snowed in South Tyrol in recent days, it has been very cold – ideal conditions for preparing the Masarè slope for the four sprint races next Wednesday, January 14th, and Thursday, January 15th. The first run of the FIS Telemark World Cup Carezza Dolomites starts at 10:12 AM each day, with the final run scheduled for noon on both days. The awards ceremonies will take place approximately half an hour after the last skier crosses the finish line at the Franzin Alm. The teams are expected to arrive on Monday, January 12th, with Tuesday designated as a training day.

“We are ready. Preparations for the Telemark World Cup are almost complete. We are, of course, very pleased that after the snowboarders in December, we are now hosting a World Cup for a second FIS winter sport for the fourth time. The snowboarders have certainly set a high bar for Raphael Mahlknecht with his historic triple victory,” say the organizers of the FIS Telemark World Cup Carezza Dolomites, which this year is entitled to use the “Green Event” label for the first time.
