The golden Wednesday at the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo will go down in South Tyrolean sporting history. But the local athletes are far from satisfied. Another great opportunity for a medal presents itself on Thursday.

Within an hour, Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer, along with Emanuel Rieder and Simon Kainzwaldner, ensured South Tyrol's most golden day at the Olympics since 1972. Back then, lugers Paul Hildgartner and Walter Plaickner, as well as ski icon Gustav Thöni, stood almost simultaneously on the top step of the podium in Sapporo. If Armin Zöggeler's athletes have their way, the medal haul will continue on Thursday.
Then, on the Eugenio Monti Railway, the Team relay The stage is set. Based on the results in the singles and doubles, the South Tyroleans are among the top medal contenders. The lineup is as follows: Verena Hofer and Dominik Fischnaller will compete in the singles, while the aforementioned gold medalists are already selected for the doubles. The race starts at 6:30 p.m.

Two races without South Tyrolean participation are already scheduled in Cortina and Val di Fiemme. At the Olimpia delle Tofane, ski stars Sofia Goggia and Federica Brignone are among those competing. Super G to the top group of favorites (11:30 a.m.). Laura Pirovano and Elena Curtoni are the other two Italian starters. In Tesero, however, the cross-country skiers are at 10-kilometer race required in free technique (13 p.m.).
