Snow chaos: Aerials cancelled – combination also in danger

The persistent snowfall in Livigno has led to another cancellation at the Winter Olympics – and could also disrupt the schedule of the Nordic combined athletes.

The men's freestyle ski jump, originally scheduled for Thursday, has to be postponed due to "significant snowfall" forecast, as announced by the International Ski Federation (FIS).

The expected snowfall would lead to even more adverse conditions than on Tuesday, when the schedule for the freestyle ski aerials competitions was also affected. The safety of the athletes is the highest priority, organizers stated. The qualification round is now scheduled for Friday starting at 10:30 a.m., with the finals beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Bad weather forecast also for the combined skiers

The Nordic combined athletes are also worried about their team competition due to the weather. The ski jumping is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the large hill in Predazzo. The decisive cross-country race of the team sprint is planned for 14 p.m. in Tesero. However, large amounts of fresh snow are forecast there as well, along with wind and rain. As with the freestyle event, a postponement to Friday is also a possibility for the Nordic combined competition.
