South Tyrolean winter sports enthusiasts are happy about 88.200 euros

Guests of honor from sports and business accepted the invitation of the Südtiroler Sporthilfe to properly celebrate the talented and ambitious winter athletes. The guests of honor who landed were Manfred Pinzger (HGV), Flora Kröss (Alperia), Thomas Demetz (South Tyrolean Sparkasse Foundation), Stephan Konder (South Tyrolean Sparkasse), Georg Kössler (VOG), Armin Hölzl (Office of Sports), Peter Werth ( Konverto), Markus Ortler (FISI South Tyrol), Annelies Schenk (FISG South Tyrol), Paul Romen (VSS), Paolo Trotter (USSA) and Werner Oberthaler (Mals Sports High School) were present.

Sporthilfe board member Dorotea Mader skilfully moderated the event. HGV President Manfred Pinzger welcomed everyone present and especially the numerous winter sports athletes in the HGV's Gustelier. Unfortunately, State Governor and Sports Councilor Arno Kompatscher was unable to take part in the event. However, he did not miss the opportunity to address a few words of appreciation to the talented winter sports athletes. Sporthilfe President Giovanni Podini was also happy about the distribution of almost 90.000 euros and motivated the athletes present to believe in themselves, persevere and ambitiously pursue their own goals.

888 km for a good cause Already in 2021, 8 cycling friends came up with the idea of setting up a charity bike tour with the aim of doing good. The destination of the adventure at that time was the city of Naples. In 2023 the idea was taken up again by the 8 friends with the group name “A neve din“ta sacca” with the motto: Never Split the differences. 888 kilometers through 3 states were completed in 8 days. A call was made in advance to donate to the Dormizil and Südtiroler Sporthilfe clubs. The group also collected donations along the way.

Afterwards, the highlight of the event took place, namely the symbolic handover of the funding checks to 95 winter sports athletes with a total amount of 88.200 euros - including a group photo with all young athletes present, as well as the guests of honor. The Südtiroler Sparkasse Foundation will pay 15.000 euros of the total amount, which was presented by board member Thomas Demetz to the sports high school students of Mals, in the presence of Werner Oberthaler (Director of the Mals High School Center) and the head of the communication department of the Südtiroler Sparkasse Stephan Konder.

95 winter talents from 12 sports “On behalf of all the athletes, I would like to thank all the sponsors and supporters present for their great support. Through the trust placed in us, we athletes are motivated to push ourselves to our limits and sometimes even beyond them,” were the sincere words of cross-country skier Marit Folie.

All athletes present were happy about the recognition and confirmed that they were on the right path. After the award ceremony, Sporthilfe invited everyone present to a small drink. An impressive 88.200 euros were distributed to 95 athletes from 12 sports.

The South Tyrolean Sporthilfe, as a non-profit organization, looks forward every year to making it easier for young South Tyrolean athletes to practice sports by providing a financial subsidy. The focus is on both performance criteria and social/family criteria. In addition, Sporthilfe considers partnerships with large South Tyrolean companies to be very important, as the sponsored athletes know the companies better and learn to appreciate their support.
