A lot also happened on Saturday away from the big stage (Alpine skiing giant slalom and Biathlon World Cup). In the SportNews winter sports ticker you can read everything in a compact and informative form.

SNOWBOARD CROSS: Omar Visintin achieved seventh and eighth place in the snowboard cross races in Cortina in the last two seasons. On Saturday evening, Algunder did better, but he just didn't make it to the final. The final result was 6th place for the 34-year-old veteran, who was only beaten by Cameron Bolton from Canada in the small final. Overall leader Eliot Grondin (Canada) took the victory, leaving Jake Vedder (USA) and Jarryd Hughes behind in the final.

SKI JUMPING: In the “Raw-Air” series, in which 16 jumps are completed in ten days in Oslo, Trondheim and Vikersund and is considered the toughest ski jumping series in the world, Stefan Kraft took victory at the series opener in Oslo. After the 132 meters in the first round, the Austrian also jumped in a league of his own in the second competition with 1 meters. It was Kraft's 2st World Cup victory. The Norwegian Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal came second, followed by two other Austrians, Jan Hörl (133rd) and Michael Hayböck (41th). Alex Insam, on the other hand, missed out on making it to the second round (where the best 3 athletes take part). The man from Val Gardena ended up in 4th place. The other Azzurro, Giovanni Bresadola, made it into the second round and ended up in 30th place.

The women's “Raw Air” series also kicked off in Oslo on Saturday. Actually, there were supposed to be two rounds here, but the strong wind thwarted the organizers' plans and forced them to cancel the second round. The last jumper and big favorite Nika Prevc had to wait more than half an hour before the green light was given and she could jump. And even though she had to wait so long and then had to jump without being warmed up, she showed a respectable performance and achieved 6th place. The victory went to the Norwegian Silje Opseth, who prevailed ahead of Katharina Schmid (Germany) and compatriot Eirin Maria Kvandal. The best Azzurra in Oslo was Annika Sieff with 9th place. Lara Malsiner (24th) and her sister Jessica (30th) also jumped into the points.

NORDIC COMBINATION:
At the home game in Oslo, Jarl Magnus Riiber won clearly, surpassing his 14 wins from the 2019/20 season. Riiber won for the eleventh time in his eleventh start since the turn of the year with a huge 1:28,6 minute lead over the Austrian Johannes Lamparter, while his compatriot Stefan Rettenegger came third (+1:33,5). After the jump, Riiber already had a comfortable lead, which he then easily brought to the finish while running.

BIAHLON:
At the IBU Cup final in Obertilliach (AUT), the women's mass start over 12 km was on the agenda. There was a French double victory. Anaelle Bondoux prevailed with a lead of 53,5 seconds over Oceane Michelon. The German Emily Schumann landed in third place (+55,1 seconds). Best Azzurra was Sara Scattolo in 15th place.

In the overall ranking, the Frenchwoman Oceane Michelon took the crown. With 803 points I came out ahead of the Norwegians Jenny Enodd (708 points) and Karoline Erdal (691). The best Italian, Sara Scattolo, did not make it into the top 20. She has to settle for 25th place and 305 points.

At the men's mass start over 15 km, the Norwegian biathletes once again impressively demonstrated that there is currently no way around them. The first five (!) places were occupied by Scandinavians, Emilien Claude in 6th place was the first non-Norwegian to cross the finish line. Sverre Dahlen Aspenes took victory ahead of Martin Uldal and Martin Nevland. The only South Tyrolean who started was David Zingerle. The Antholzer was also the best Azzurro with 46th place.

The first five places in the overall ranking also belong to Norwegian athletes. The ball went to Mats Oeverby, who prevailed with 190 points ahead of Johan-Olav Botn. Third place went to Martin Nevland. The best Azzurro in the overall ranking is Daniele Cappellari in tenth place. The South Tyroleans David Zingerle (3) and Christoph Pircher (24) placed a little further back.
