SKI JUMPING: In Wisla in Poland, there were two premieres to celebrate for the ski jumpers on the large hill. On the one hand, the Austrian Daniel Tschofenig defended his half-time lead and celebrated his first World Cup victory on Saturday afternoon (276,8 points). On the other hand, Gregor Deschwanden (275,4) from Switzerland managed to make it onto a World Cup podium for the first time in his career with his second place. Third place went to the overall World Cup leader Pius Paschke (273,9) from Germany. The South Tyrolean Alex Insam failed in the qualification with 52nd place (90,3 points).
NORDIC COMBINATION: After the opening event in Ruka, Finland, the Nordic combined athletes moved to Lillehammer in Norway. There, two competitions were scheduled for Saturday. In the men's event, local hero Jarl Magnus Riiber won ahead of the German Julian Schmid (+36,7 seconds) and the Austrian Johannes Lamparter (+36,7). Rafaele Buzzi (+1:34,2 minutes) became the best Azzurro with 17th place. Aaron Kostner, a South Tyrolean, was also at the start. The Val Gardena native fought his way to 25th place (+2:00,4).
In the women's race, the two South Tyroleans Daniela Dejori (30th/+3:18,6) and Anna Senoner (32nd/+4:12,9) had to be content. The victory went to the Norwegian Ida Marie Hagen.
BIATHLON: The pursuits marked the end of the IBU Cup in Geilo, Norway, on Saturday. The women started in the morning, with German Marlene Fichtner taking the win after second place in the sprint thanks to a flawless performance on the shooting range. The best Azzurra was Beatrice Trabucchi (21st/5 penalty laps/+3:59,4 minutes), three places behind was South Tyrolean Linda Zingerle (2/+4:45,7), who improved by a whopping 32nd place. Her teammate Birgit Schölzhorn also made a big leap forward. Despite her 5 penalty laps, the Sterzing native worked her way up from 39th to 28th place (+5:19,9).
In the men's race, David Zingerle finished 30th (2/+2:30,2), while Christoph Pircher had to settle for 40th place (5/+7:17,6). As on Friday, Norwegian Uldal Martin secured victory.
BOB: At the start of the Bobsleigh World Cup in Altenberg, the Pfalzner pilot Patrick Baumgartner and brakeman Robert Mircea took 6th place, 1,69 seconds behind the victorious Francesco Friedrich. The latter had started for the first time with sprinter Simon Wulff as pusher, who thus celebrated his first victory on his World Cup debut in bobsleigh. Second place went to Johannes Lochner and pusher Georg Fleischhauer (+2), Adam Ammour and Issam Ammour (+0,41) completed the German triple victory.
CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: Federico Pellegrino from Aosta came third in the freestyle sprint at the World Cup in Lillehammer, Norway. The victory went to Norwegian superstar Johannes Klarebo, who beat fellow countryman Even Northug. Cross-country skier Michael Hellweger from Sarnen qualified for the quarter-finals of the best 3. But that was where he was eliminated. He was ultimately ranked 30th.
