January is the peak season for winter sports. You can find out what else is happening in addition to the major events in a compact format in the SportNews winter sports ticker.

SKI JUMPING: The Austrian Stefan Kraft has won the qualification for the final of the Four Hills Tournament in Bischofshofen. The 31-year-old ski jumper won with a jump of 142 meters, ahead of his compatriot Maximilian Ortner and the Swiss Gregor Deschwanden. Alex Insam qualified in 29th place for the jump on Monday.

BOB: Lisa Buckwitz is the big winner at the home World Cup in Winterberg. First the German won on Saturday with a track record in the monobob, then the world champion raced past the leading Olympic champion Laura Nolte in the second run of the two-man bobsleigh. She won with Kira Lipperheide, ahead of Nolte, who rode with Deborah Levi, with a tiny lead of one hundredth of a second. Kim Kalicki completed the German triple success with Leonie Fiebig.

In the men's race, where the four-man bobsleigh race was interrupted for a long time after a crash, Briton Bradley Hall won ahead of the two German drivers Francesco Friedrich (+0,19) and Adam Ammour (+0,48). South Tyrolean Patrick Baumgartner finished the race with his pushers Eric Fantazzini, Robert Mircea and Lorenzo Bilotti in a good fourth place (+0,51).

ARTISTIC TRACK TOBOGGANING: Things are slowly but surely looking up for Dominik Fischnaller. In Sigulda (Latvia), the 28-year-old celebrated his best result of the season with fourth place. He was 0,356 seconds behind the day's winner Nico Gleirscher from Austria, who triumphed ahead of local hero Kristers Aparjods (+0,184) and the German Max Langenhan (+0,281). Leon Felderer took 15th place (+1,406), while Alex Gufler came in 18th (+1,593).

In the later team relay, the number of dropouts increased, so that only three nations reached the finish. Germany won ahead of Austria (+0,040) and Ukraine, which came third with a gap of 3,947 seconds. In the Italian team, Andrea Vötter and Marion Oberhofer in the doubles did not take a curve correctly, which caused the sled to be lifted off the runners and not reach the finish. Both remained uninjured.

SKI JUMPING: Katharina Schmid won the first of two normal hill ski jumping World Cup competitions in Villach on Sunday. The German jumped 95,5 and 97 meters and beat the half-time leader Nika Prevc from Slovenia. For the first time this season, Austrian Jacqueline Seifriedsberger made it onto the podium in third place. Lara Malsiner from Val Gardena showed a strong performance and took 13th place, while Annika Sieff from Trentino came 33rd. Martina Zanitzer and Jessica Malsiner were eliminated in the qualification.
