Two ski icons light the Olympic flame

Italian ski icons Alberto Tomba and Deborah Compagnoni will light the Olympic flames for the Milan/Cortina Winter Games at the opening ceremony on Friday.

That's what she reported Journal of Sport On Wednesday. The 59-year-old Tomba and the 55-year-old Compagnoni are both three-time Olympic champions and are among the most popular Italian winter sports athletes of their generation.

The report stated that Tomba would light the flame in Milan at the official opening ceremony, while Compagnoni would light the second flame in Piazza Dibona in Cortina d'Ampezzo. However, this had not yet been confirmed by the organizers before the ceremony.
