SKICROSS: After being eliminated in the round of 16 the previous day and finishing 19th, Dominik Zuech reached the quarterfinals of the second World Cup competition in Veysonnaz, Switzerland, on Saturday. However, the 29-year-old from Lana was eliminated there, ultimately finishing 14th. Zuech has thus secured his Olympic berth. Yanick Gunsch from Vinschgau missed qualifying for the round of 16 (the top 32), finishing 39th. Italy's star athlete, Simone Deromedis, made it to the final but finished fourth and last. The victory went to Canadian Reece Howden, who prevailed over Tim Hronek (Germany) and Melvin Tchiknavorian (France). In the women's competition, Daniela Maier (Germany) took first place ahead of Sonja Gigler (Austria) and Marielle Thompson (Canada). No athletes from South Tyrol participated.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: Norwegian superstar Johannes Klaebo dominated the Olympic dress rehearsal in the classic sprint. He prevailed in the final of the top six on Saturday in Goms, ahead of American Gus Schumacher (+2,64 seconds) and Swede Edvin Anger (+4,77). Italy's Simone Mocellini finished a strong fourth (+11,48). Michael Hellweger from Sarnen missed out on qualifying for the quarterfinals of the top 30, finishing 38th. In the women's race, Linn Svahn took the victory. The Swede finished ahead of Laura Gimmler (Germany) and Nadine Fähndrich (Switzerland).

SKI JUMPING: After finishing second and fourth on the normal hill at the World Cup in Zao, Japan, earlier in the week, World Cup dominator Nika Prevc struck back. Following her brief slump, she celebrated her twelfth victory of the winter on the large hill in Sapporo on Saturday. The Slovenian relegated Canadian Abigail Strate and Norwegian Anna Odine Stroem to second and third place, respectively. Annia Sieff from Val di Fiemme finished in 20th place, while the second Italian, Martina Zanitzer, came in 24th. No athletes from South Tyrol competed.
