Giannelli steers the Perugia boat towards the title

Simone Giannelli and his team Perugia are fighting for the Italian championship title in Serie A. In the final series against Monza, the Bolzano volleyball high-flyer's team increased their score to 2-1 on Thursday evening.

While there was great celebration at the opening win a week ago, Perugia had to endure a defeat last Sunday and Monza leveled the score at 1-1. As balanced as the series seems in the games, Game 3 was just as unbalanced on Thursday evening. Simone Giannelli and his teammates always had their opponents under control - apart from a little uncertainty - and defeated Monza 3-1. This makes it 2-1 in the best-of-five series for Perugia, who can claim Scudetto victory on Sunday at 18.00 p.m.

Giannelli and Co. were clearly visible in their anger at the narrow defeat in Game 2 (2:3). It was therefore no surprise that Perugia started at a rapid pace and overcame Monza 25:15 in the first set. The guests didn't have much to gain in the second set either (25:18). The Lombards celebrated their only set win in the third set, where they extended the game by a hair's breadth with a score of 26:24. But in set 4 it was finally over and Perugia declared the third game in the series with a 25:19 set win.
